UMM is working to implement a new model and vision of men’s ministry. We believe that the result will be men involved in all four areas of focus which will reach the world for Christ. United Methodist Men are responding to the four areas of focus in the following ways:

New places for new people and renewal of existing congregations…

  • Awakening and building new spiritually as a means to revive congregations.
  • Training clergy and lay leaders in effective discipleship of men.
  • Encouraging and equipping men to serve their pastors and congregations as ministry partners.
  • Assisting UMC leaders beyond the USA with relevant training and resources.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.––One hundred United Methodist churches will each be given $300 worth of innovative outreach materials to reach men in their communities.

Gilbert Hanke, top staff executive of the commission, explains that he received 100 units of free materials from a senior staff member of a company that distributes a variety of materials for men’s discipleship. The name of the company and the nature of the materials will be announced at a future date.

“The company executive told me that a gentleman whose life was changed by one of these products has made 100 units available,” said Hanke. “The gift translates to a donation of over $30,000.”

Hanke explains that the company could have delivered the materials to churches of a variety of denominations, but the executive assured the donor that the General Commission on United Methodist Men would be the best agency to process the gift material.

A jurisdictional leadership team is currently in process of selecting fifty churches from each of the five jurisdictions to measure growth in men’s ministry. The team will select 100 of these 250 churches to receive the materials at no cost. Selected churches will also receive a free video Bible study.

Churches that want to create a more vital congregation through men’s ministry, may apply for the free materials by submitting their church’s name, address, contact person, worship attendance and membership to Joshua Eidson at the commission ( The deadline for submission is November 10.
