Four hundred men now engaged in eight-week study on domestic violence

Four hundred United Methodist Men are now engaged in a study of “Amending through Faith,” an eight-week study designed to help men combat a male culture that treats women as sexual objects, an orientation that encourages domestic abuse.

“The curriculum has been well received throughout our United Methodist connection,” said the Rev. Dr. Rick Vance, director of the Center for Men’s Ministries. “I would encourage local church men’s ministries to join churches from every United Methodist Jurisdiction in using this material as a way to inform and prepare men in their local churches and communities to respond to an environment that supports and permits gender-based violence.”

Vance says that with the encouragement of local church presidents of United Methodist Men, the curriculum could reach 4,000 men by June 2019.

YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, operators of the largest domestic violence shelter in the state, started Amending through Faith because their shelter always operates at full capacity.
