The Society of St. Andrew has issued an Emergency Appeal to Ship 6.3 Million Pounds of Sweet Potatoes.

Potatoes must be shipped during  May, early June

The Society of St. Andrew has the opportunity to distribute 19-million servings of food to the hungry - immediately!

Will you help us recover this huge volume of sweet potatoes for those who are hungry? Every nickel moves 1-2 pounds! A ton of potatoes can be delivered for $50-$100.

A grower in North Carolina must clear out the warehousesbetween now and the end of May. All this food can either be distributed to feeding agencies, or can spend the summer rotting in landfills. We need to save and distribute the food.

It will take up to 150 full truckloads to move the sweet potatoes to feeding agencies across the South, as far north as New York, and west to Kansas City. The potatoes will feed people in dozens of states across the Eastern U.S.

But we need the funds to cover the transportation costs: $1,000 to $2,500 per truck, depending on the distance the truck travels. That's still only 2.5 to 6 cents a pound!

100% of all donations on this special appeal will go directly to packing and shipping these sweet potatoes.

About $250,000 will move all these sweet potatoes to places where the hungry will be able to receive them.
