She began working with the GBOD in the Upper Room Customer Service in December 1979 as a data entry clerk, accounts receivable clerk and supervisor of the Correspondence and Inquiry department. Larry Malone--(615) 620-7265 lmalone@gcumm.org
A former pilot during the Vietnam War, Larry keeps a sword in his Nashville office as a reminder of that chapter in his past. He says he is now engaged in the battle for men’s souls.
Larry flew the A-6 Intruder in the Navy. "It was that experience that brought me to the Lord," he says. "The business of dropping bombs requires a thorough examination of what you are doing, and I had never made that examination. The need for forgiveness and inner peace led me to Jesus Christ." Reaching the rank of Captain, Larry served in the Navy as an aircraft maintenance officer and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1996.
A graduate of San Jose State University (B.S. in aeronautics) and the University of Southern California (M.S. in systems management, Larry became a human resource manager in Fresno, Calif. In 1988, he began management consulting work to help businesses with marketing and human-relations issues.
After his 1994 move to be a marketing consultant in Atlanta, Larry joined a chapter of United Methodist Men at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church. That involvement led him to apply for the position of director of men’s ministries at the newly created General Commission on United Methodist Men, a Nashville-based agency. He began in this position in October 1997.
Larry and Diane, an office manager at a dental office, joined in marriage in 1967, and have three adult children; Nathan, Daniel and Kelly. Six grandchildren, three God-children and two surrogate sons now bless their lives as well.
"I think I was made for the position I now hold," says Larry. "I routinely get to see God’s power delivered –– not from me –– but occasionally through me. Asked what he finds most frustrating about his work, he says, "It’s what’s left undone at the end of the day. There are hundreds of worthy projects, and a significant number of them will never be addressed." Larry says he’s in this ministry for the long haul. "God will take me someday, but I won’t retire."
Larry’s hope and goal is to help men become instrumental in changing church in ways that increase effectiveness reaching men, women, families, communities and culture.

Ann Waller--(615) 620-7269 awaller@gcumm.org
When you need information about chartering a United Methodist Men’s group, you’ll probably speak with Ann. She posts all charters, keeps track of re-certifications, and membership in Every Man Shares in Evangelism, Mission and Spiritual Life (EMS).
Ann says she enjoys keeping records and talking to men who are involved in God’s work. "Some months I get too busy to respond as quickly as I should," says Ann, "but the men are understanding and will wait for their material."
After attending Auburn University, Eastern Michigan University and Tennessee State University, Ann worked in the music industry in Nashville for 15 years. She was involved in administration for a recording studio, publishing company and was assistant to the president of an independent record company. Growing up in the Tuskegee Methodist Church gave her some background for working for the UMC. She has worked in BHEM for the Division of Chaplains and Division of Ordained Ministry, for the UMM Scouting office under Byron White and as charter administrator for several years now.
Ann has a 19-year-old daughter who is in college. Ann says she enjoys her work because everyone is funny and light-hearted.
