Purpose

The Purpose of the Association is to strengthen the role of United Methodist Men at all levels and develop strategies and resources in order that all United Methodist Men may realize their primary purpose of bringing men to Jesus Christ and enable them to grow in their knowledge of His grace.

The National Association of Conference Presidents is an affiliate of the General Commission on United Methodist Men as the direct link to the men in the local church through the jurisdictions, conferences and districts.

The objectives of the Association:

Be a resource for jurisdictional, conference, district, and local units of United Methodist Men and to facilitate communication among all levels of United Methodist Men.

Develop, promote and evaluate current and future programs for men, which will support the ministry of United Methodist Men and the total mission of The United Methodist Church.

Recommend to the General Commission on United Methodist Men supportive action to facilitate United Methodist Men's objectives.

Responsibilities of the Executive team

President

The president shall be the presiding officer of the Association. He shall preside at all annual and special meetings. He shall preside at all meetings of the Executive Committee. He shall be an ex officio member of all action teams, except the Nominating Committee. The president shall represent the Association at the General Commission on United Methodist Men's meeting and other meetings where the Association is requested to be represented. The president is a member of the General Commission on United Methodist Men, the United Methodist Men's Foundation, and the Society of St. Andrew.

1st Vice President

The first vice president shall preside at all meetings and represent the Association in the absence of the president. The first vice president will also be accountable to the NACP Executive Committee for the promotion of men's ministries through the GCUMM's affiliates and/or partnerships. The first vice president shall assist the treasurer in the preparation of the annual budget to be presented to the Executive Committee for approval.

2nd Vice President

The second vice president shall preside at all meetings and represent the Association in the absence of the president and first vice president. The second vice president will also be accountable to the NACP Executive Committee for the promotion of chartering, Legacy Builders and Every Man Shares (EMS). The second vice president shall assist the treasurer in the preparation of the annual budget to be presented to the Executive Committee for approval.

Secretary

The secretary shall be familiar with the total work, program, and organization of the Association in order to keep accurate records and to assist the president. He shall keep the president aware of the agenda of the meetings. The secretary shall keep the minutes and records of the Association. He shall serve as custodian of all records and official papers as are placed in his care and a duplicate copy of the records shall be given to the General Commission on United Methodist Men which shall secure them and provide access.

Treasurer

The treasurer shall be responsible for the collection and disbursement of all funds. Adequate records shall be kept and a written report shall be made at all meetings of the Association and the Executive Committee. The yearly budget shall be developed by the treasurer along with the first and second vice presidents and presented to the Executive Committee for approval. Disbursement of funds shall be made according to the adopted budget. There shall be an annual audit. All non-budgeted requests for funds shall be directed to the Executive Committee for review and approval. The treasurer shall be bonded.

Brief NACP History

  • Even though the first national event, Congress, took place in 1953 the National Association of Conference Presidents, NACP, wasn't created until 1975.
  • In the mid 60's men's work fell under the General Board of Laity and in the early 70's United Methodist Men fell under the General Board of Discipleship.
  • 1976 General Conference adopted United Methodist Men as a Section in the Division of Lay Life and Work of the General Board of Discipleship.
  • 1978 United Methodist Men began support of the Upper Room Prayer Line.
  • 1980 UMMen became Section on United Methodist Men, General Board of Discipleship.
  • 1981 Every Man Shares (EMS) program was introduced. UMMen Foundation was chartered.
  • 1987 United Methodist Scouting fell under the direction and responsibility of the United Methodist Men.
  • 1996 General Conference created General Commission on United Methodist Men.
