RICHMOND, Va. –– Jim Gibbs, 77, a life-long Eagle Scout and former scouting director for the Virginia Annual Conference, died March 11 in Richmond.


“Jim was an enthusiastic servant leader who used scouting as an outreach ministry to local churches,” said Larry Coppock, national scouting leader for the General Commission on United Methodist Men. “He will be missed.”


Gibbs graduated from Virginia Tech in 1955 and was an active member of the Alumni Association and the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. He was also an active member of Prospect United Methodist Church.


He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda G. Gibbs; one daughter, three sons and four grandchildren.
